Good News/ Not-so-Good News
We'll start with the not-so-good news.
You may have seen the article in Monday's edition of the San Angelo Standard-Times about our restroom remodel. The existing plumbing (circa 1967) is falling apart and considered irreparable. New sewer lines that circle the perimeter of the main building will be laid as soon as the school board approves the additional cost. Unfortunately, this will push back our projected finish date by several weeks and could temporarily restrict exterior student traffic patterns. If exterior sidewalks are fenced off, we will move our morning wait areas as follows:
* 6th grade will move to the patio,
* 7th grade will stay on the east side of the main building,
* 8th grade will move to the cafeteria.
Now for some good news!
When we return in January, we will follow a 7-period school day with 5-minute passing periods. The time previously allotted to Raider Periods will be redistributed to the remaining 7 classes which will allow teachers more time for instruction, modeling, practice, and remediation. We believe the additional time in the classroom will be greatly beneficial to our students. Tutorials will continue to be offered before or after school. On Fridays, we will continue to follow our 9-period schedule so that advisory classes and clubs can still meet.
And even more good news … Honors Classes!
Classes that reach and maintain an 85 average will be designated as Honors Classes. ANY class that meets the 85 average qualifies - all core academic classes, PE/athletics, performing arts, visual arts, and all other electives. The first Honors Classes will be named following distribution of the 3rd six-weeks grade reports, but competition among classes has already begun! We are very encouraged about the excitement that is building in our students and staff. 8th grade will move to the cafeteria Early dismissal (12:45) on Thursday and Friday!!! * Please make arrangements to pick up your child(ren) on time. * Middle school students will not be allowed on elementary campuses to visit former teachers.
