Administrators

SchoolCenter PictureJoe Gándar - Principal

My name is Joe Gándar and I am the Principal at Carver Learning Center.  My educational journey began at Angelo State University, where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration.  This is going to be my 16th year as an educator, all for San Angelo Independent School District.  I began my career teaching 2nd grade (four years) and 6th grade (1 year) at Reagan Elementary.  After five great years at Reagan, I moved on to Lee Middle School and spent 6 amazing years teaching Teen Leadership, VIPER, and ELA.  After 11 years in the classroom I became At-Risk Coordinator at Glenn Middle School.  Three years later I became Assistant Principal here at Carver.  Now, I serve as the Principal.  I have a wonderful family that includes my wife, Rachel, and two children, Ava and Isiah.  From a young age, I knew I wanted to go into education.  I believe this is my calling, which is why I have a passion for helping kids and impacting their lives in the most positive way possible.

Bernie Riojas - Assistant Principal

My name is Bernardina Riojas and I am excited to be the Assistant Principal of Carver Learning Center. This is my fourteenth year as an educator. I graduated from Angelo State University in 2004 with a degree in Spanish.  I spent three years teaching AP Spanish before I began working on my master’s degree.  I graduated from Angelo State University in 2009 with my Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling. I then spent three years counseling before deciding to work on a certification-only Master's program specializing in Administration. I continued counseling and awaiting the opportunity to become an Administrator. In addition to working for the San Angelo Independent School District, I have also had the opportunity to collaborate with Angelo State University as an Adjunct Professor in the Curriculum and Instruction Department of the Graduate Studies program. I look forward to continuing to serve the students of SAISD through the Carver Learning Center. My philosophy of education is that every student should receive a quality education regardless of circumstances that may be affecting their performance. I will continue to communicate and build a rapport with the students, parents, faculty, staff and stakeholders of the San Angelo Independent School District.
